Description:
Abstract:
This dataset presents estimated annual runoff coefficients for typical climatic conditions. The runoff coefficient values represent the annual fraction of total precipitation not retained on-site.

Generally, the dataset was derived through modeling based on land use and soil types present. A Technical Memorandum dated February 7, 2008 from Houston Engineering, Inc. to the South Washington Watershed District provides a full description of how and why the data were developed.

New developments are required to maintain the annual average predevelopment infiltration capacity of the site. The existing infiltration capacity for a specific area is primarily a function of the type of soils and amount of impervious surface. This dataset assists in quantifying existing infiltration capacity, expressed as an estimated annual runoff coefficient. The South Washington Watershed District has also developed a "Standards Manual" publication which discusses the use of this dataset in greater detail.

Purpose:
This dataset was developed in conjunction with the South Washington Watershed District Watershed Management Plan Update. Two key benefits of the file include 1) establishing a standard to enforce regulations for stormwater runoff volume control and 2) ensuring the standard incorporates variability in soils and land use across the watershed.

Attribute_Label: runoff_coe
Attribute_Definition:
Annual runoff coefficient. Reflects the fraction of annual precipitation that is not retained on a given polygon feature. Where Hydrologic Soil Group is potentially drained (e.g., A/D), the undrained soil condition is used for the runoff coefficient to compute the runoff coefficient. Where Hydrologic Soil Group is undefined, soil type "B" is used to compute the runoff coefficient. Land uses identified explicitly as aved surfaces or water surfaces are assigned a value of "1".
