The South Washington Watershed District is located entirely in Washington County, Minnesota, and contains portions of eight municipalities: Afton, Cottage Grove, Grey Cloud Island Twp., Lake Elmo, Newport, Oakdale, St. Paul Park and Woodbury.  The 35,000 acre watershed (political boundary) contains a number of landlocked drainage areas; however, the drainage is generally south, by either overland or subsurface flow, to the Mississippi River.
